WHAT KIND OF WORSHIPPER ARE YOU?
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.~John 4:23-24
During the last decade, christendom has been introduced to praise and worship music, flags, dancing, mime, concerts, and a host of other events meant to enhance our worship experience. Jesus said the Father seeks true worshippers which shall worship Him in spirit and in truth. Worship is not only a physical or soulish experience that occurs with the raising of hands, lifting of voice, or jubilant dance. While these all may be part of the process of our praise and worship, TRUE worshippers prostrate themselves to the will and character of God in loving obedience, through the instruction and guidance of the Holy Ghost, the Spirit of Truth. Worship is conforming to the image of Christ to the renewing of our mind, captivity of thoughts, and strengthening of spirit. Although we seek the Lord, He also seeks sincere, truthful, Holy Spirit-led worshippers to love.
That being said, I ask what type of worshipper are you? Are you a sincere and devoted worshipper, yet are self-willed? If we are to be like Jesus, then we, like him must be led by the Holy Spirit into the journey for which we were purposed. Do you still lead the way or have to have control of every aspect of your life and environment?
When speaking to the woman at the well, Jesus told her her nation didn't know what they worshipped. Similarly, Paul stood by Mars' Hill and said to the men of Athens "...as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you (Acts 17:23). It is possible to sincerely be devoted to and worship someone or something in ignorance. What do you devote yourself to, spend your resources for, aspire to become, seek to be like, or conform to the image of? Do you really understand the ramifications of your commitment level? Does your dedication compromise your values or God's instructions? God is looking for someone to enter into a relationship with him who knows His truth and and ways and lovingly worships and submits to his commandments.
Another form of worship is founded upon doctrines and commandments of men, which are often tainted by private interpretations, and stray from the truth of the God-inspired scriptures. Structures based upon man's teachings are particularly shakey when those doctrines are not in full agreement with the Lord's. Like architecture and engineering, there are principles which remain constant and must be adhered to when framing a temple. We are the living temple of the Holy Spirit.
Finally, the last worshipper outwardly offers perfected physical worship, yet lacks sincerity, truth, and commitment. This hypocritical performer honors the Lord with his/her mouth and lips but his/her heart and devotion is far from God.
Let us strive to enter into sincere, long-term worship grounded in spirit and truth, that we may be such that the Father seeks to worship Him.
God Bless and Keep You in His Service,
